Actors Showreel Blog

This is my blog where the work I have done for my client’s showreel as well as my contributions towards other people’s productions for their clients is recorded over the 6-week’s of the project.

Week 1 – Filming

Wednesday, 6th January 2016

Today we met with the actors/actresses to discuss ideas for the type of content they would like to have in their showreel. Myself and Caitlin Durham are working as a team for our client Chloe Cain.

Week 2 – Filming

Tuesday, 12th January 2016

This was supposed to be the original date that filming was supposed to begin, however, due to Chloe not being in, we could’t go through with the filming today.

Today we planned the filming & editing schedule as well as assigning the production crew roles. Since Caitlin isn’t going to be in on Wednesday (tomorrow), it is my responsibility to find out other ideas for the showreel that Chloe wants to put forward before we record.

Wednesday, 13th January 2016

Today I assisted Maddy’s production by taking on a role as one of the camera operators. I also helped towards Jack and George & Adam’s productions as well by taking the role as camera operator again for both productions.

In addition to helping out the other groups with their filming, due to being on my own today, it was my responsibility to find out what content (other than a scene from Earthquakes of London) needs to be filmed for the showreel for mine and Caitlin’s client Chloe. I contacted Chloe via text to find this out due to not being able to discuss ideas with her as I promised to help out with filming today for another group.

I have received no response to this message from Chloe about ideas for the showreel.

Week 3 – Filming

Monday , 18th January 2016

Today I emailed Chris (who forwarded the email to Dan) to book out the equipment we needed for filming on Tuesday 19th January.

Tuesday, 19th January 2016 – 10:30am – 11:00am

Today was the date of filming for the first scene of Chloe’s showreel. This filming session took place between 10:30am and 11:00am this morning.

Location:

We filmed the first scene in between the Sports Hall and the Refectory.

Wednesday, 20th January 2016

Today I helped out with filming for Josh Pye’s production with his client by being one of the three camera operators, along with Caitlin Durham and Gracie Vincent.

I also booked out equipment for Thursday, 21st January as myself and Caitlin will be filming tomorrow and need the equipment.

At 18:24pm, I texted Chloe about whether or not we’re still filming on Thursday, but I have so far received no response to my text. However, despite not receiving a rely to my text, I talked to Caitlin, who did receive a text from Chloe, who suggested we move the filming session to 10:30am on Tuesday, 26th January instead so it didn’t cause any inconvenience for people who had Thursday’s off and would have ended up travelling to college for only one hour to do filming.

After finding out about the change of date of filming, I emailed Chris and Dan at 21:57pm to ask if we could have the equipment request I made today moved from Thursday, 21st January to Tuesday, 26th rather than cancel the equipment request all together.

Thursday, 21st January 2016

Today was originally planned to be the second day of filming Chloe’s scenes for her showreel, but since she didn’t want anyone to have to come in on their day off and suggested that we move the filming day to Tuesday 26th instead; this way everyone would be in college and would be more organised in the long run.

Week 4 – Final Filming Week

Tuesday, 26th January 2016

This is the last week that is strictly dedicated to filming. Today was originally supposed to be the reorganised second day of filming scenes for the showreel. However, due to the weather today, we were unable to film outside and the actor Chloe was going to act with was in lessons when we were able to film, so we didn’t end up filming today either. We have however moved the filming session to Wednesday (tomorrow)

Wednesday, 27th January 2016

Today we filmed our second scene for the showreel for Chloe by working as one of the camera operators on the camera that captured the shot of the scene from the left.

In addition to filming for my own production, I also helped towards other productions today too:

I helped out with Gracie & Shona’s production by working as a camera operator on the camera that was responsible for capturing the long shot on both of the scenes they needed filming. I also helped towards Maddy’s production by again working as a camera operator for her client’s scene by capturing various different angles due to the scene Maddy’s client wanting to play both of the characters appearing in the scene.

Due to this being the last week that is dedicated to filming, I have texted Chloe to ask her if she has any ideas for her 4th and 5th scenes that she wants filming. I am now waiting for a text back from her.

Week 5 – First Editing Week

Tuesday, 2nd February 2016

Today is the first day of editing for the showreel. I encountered a few technical issues with Premiere, but they were fixed easily by Chris. I imported the video files for the footage of scenes for the showreel and I am now in the process of editing.

Wednesday, 3rd February 2016

I have managed to begin the multi camera editing by creating a multi-camera monitor with the assistance of Josh Pye explaining in a bit more detail how to sync up the audio as I was having a hard time understanding how to start.

Week 6 – Second & Final Week of Editing

Tuesday, 9th February 2016

Today I continued working on the second scene for the individual showreel. I encountered a few issues with syncing up the audio and the video via multi camera monitor, but soon found out that I had made an error when collecting the footage from the memory cards and noticed that the two video clips I was using were from two different takes of the same scene, so the audio and video were different in terms of timing as opposed to dialogue.

This error is something I am going to try to resolve tomorrow.

Wednesday, 10th February 2016

Today I continued to figure out how to solve the issue of having two different takes of the same scene and I eventually managed to find a way around the clips not being in sync. It took longer than I expected due to very minor issues with the audio, but soon came up with a way of working around that by slowing down the audio slightly so the dialogue would be spoken without being too far behind when the actors’ mouths move. I also added a title section to the beginning of the showreel to show whose showreel it it.

Friday, 12th February 2016

Today is the deadline for the showreel project and when the showreel has to be submitted to be sent off to the actors. I decided to double check my showreel before I rendered it out and send it off so I could make any necessary changes. The only thing I added to the showreel before rendering it out was adding a contact page at the end of the showreel so it would make the showreel look more professional.
